Planning a full rack overhaul next quarter, need to source pallets that won’t be the weak link

We are finally replacing our entire racking setup after years of patchwork fixes and honestly the pallets have become an afterthought in every planning meeting even though they are the part actually holding everything together up there, our facilities lead keeps repeating that whatever we choose needs to come from a premium rackable pallet manufacturer in UAE since we cannot afford another round of replacements two years from now when half our budget is already going into the new steel racking itself, I have started reaching out to a handful of manufacturers this week and it is interesting how much the pricing varies even when the specs on paper look almost identical, some are noticeably cheaper but when I ask about testing standards the answers get vague pretty fast, still early in the process but wanted to see if anyone here has been through a similar full scale rack replacement and what ended up mattering most once everything was actually loaded and running day to day.

Testing standards going vague at similar price points is the tell, ask specifically if they test to something like EPAL or ISO standards versus just an internal in house rating that nobody outside the company can verify.

Went through a full rack overhaul two years back and the thing that mattered most day to day ended up being consistency between units, not peak load rating. A few slightly weaker pallets mixed into a batch caused more headaches than the spec sheet numbers ever did.

Budget mostly going into steel racking and treating pallets as an afterthought is such a common mistake, the pallets are genuinely the part touching your actual product every single day, worth reallocating some budget there.

What’s your actual rack beam span looking like? That number should be driving the pallet spec conversation more than general “heavy duty” marketing language, since flex tolerance changes a lot based on how much unsupported space there is.

Cheaper pricing with vague testing answers early on almost always means cut corners somewhere, usually shows up as inconsistent batches later even if the first sample they send you looks perfectly fine.
