The 1972 animated television series Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids served as its inspiration. The original show was conceived by Bill Cosby.

Kenan Thompson portrays Fat Albert in the film. The movie depicts the cartoon characters evolving into actual people. The distinctions between the actual world and their cartoon world must be taught to them. The TV series’ plot is carried over. Fat Albert and his pals depart from the cartoon world of the 1970s. They step into the 2000s actual world. Their objective is to assist Doris Robertson (Kyla Pratt), an adolescent girl. She is going through a difficult period. Lauri (Dania Ramirez), her foster sister, attempts to encourage her to interact with others more. One day, Doris is watching the Cosby Kids and Fat Albert on television. A tear escapes her eye and lands on the TV remote. A portal to the realm of cartoons is mysteriously opened by this tear!</span></p>

The cartoon characters pick up real-world knowledge fast. The new technology astounds them. They go to school with Doris. Lauri begins to win over Fat Albert. Albert is challenged to a race by a youngster named Reggie, who has feelings for Lauri. The race is comfortably won by Albert.

The group persuades a few cheerleaders to throw a party in order to assist Doris. Despite her doubts, Doris decides to travel. Lauri and Albert dance at the celebration. Reggie dances with Doris in an attempt to make Lauri envious. Reggie tries to kiss Doris without Lauri noticing. Doris becomes agitated. Albert advises Reggie to avoid her.</span></p>

Doris attends school the following day. Rather than follow her, she asks the group to go to the park. The cartoon figures begin to alter in real life. Despite his customary awkwardness, Harold is a flawless basketball player. A little girl teaches Mushmouth, who typically mumbles, how to talk clearly. Donald visits the library. He doesn’t need his pink face-covering hat to read.

Bucky, Harold, and Donald leap back into the TV as Doris brings them home. However, the program is interrupted by a news report. The other four are prevented from returning as a result. Bill and Albert argue about going back. In a trash car, the gang drives Doris and Lauri to a fair.</span></p>
