Is a reselling business worth starting?

I’ve been thinking about starting a reselling business, but I’m still not sure whether there’s enough money in it to make the effort worthwhile. I keep seeing people talk about buying products cheap and flipping them online, but I also don’t want to dump money into inventory that sits for months or sells at a loss once fees and shipping are taken out. I’m fine starting small and learning as I go, I just don’t know what the realistic upside and downside look like. Is reselling actually worth getting into, and where would you start if you were new to it?

I’d spend some time looking at what actually sells before putting much money into stock. A product can look like an easy flip until you check sold prices and realize buyers barely touch it or the margin disappears after fees. eBay’s Product Research in Seller Hub is useful for that because you can see recent sales, typical prices, and demand before deciding what to buy. I’d pick one category you understand, test a handful of products, and only put more money into it once you see what moves consistently.
