Position Synchronization in Fusion HCM Release 10

The Position Synchronization in Fusion HCM Release 10 is a huge positive for a lot of customers using position management. In earlier releases and also in EBS, if positions were used, we  would have to rely on a lot of default values defined at the position level especially the job and the department. The Position synchronization feature introduced in Fusion R10 address that issue as the customer can now choose to allow overrides of values set at the position. You can enable position synchronization at the enterprise and legal entity levels using the Manage Enterprise HCM Information and Manage Legal Entity HCM Information tasks (in the Setup and Maintenance work area) respectively.

Position Synchronization at the enterprise level:

Position Synchronization at the Legal Entity Level

Points to remember:

  • If synchronization is defined at both enterprise and legal entity level then the legal entity setups will override the setups at the enterprise level.
  • In case of a three-tier employment model, specify the position at the assignment level since position synchronization is not supported at the employment terms level.
  • It flexibility to choose the legal entity where you want to override e.g. if you have position synchronization override at the enterprise level, and one of your legal entities don’t allow overrides, you can still set the value of ‘Enable Position Synchronization’ to No at that specific legal entity.
  • If the position synchronization configuration is changed after person and assignments are created, then the Initialize Position Synchronization job must be run to apply the changes in assignments. You can apply the assignment changes as of the current date or a date in the future.

  1. Can I disable position synchronization at the employee level? I want it to be synchronized at the Legal Entity level, but for one employee, I want it to be disabled . can this be done?

  2. There is a field under Assignment details at the employee level “Synchronize from positions” , which can be set to Yes/No. In case I set it to “No”,
I am able to make edits to the assignment level data (Working hours , Regular/Temporary) etc. and submit it.
Now, when the position data is changed, it does not get reflected at the employee level.
However, the problem is , I am not finding this field for all employees, I could find it for only a few. Cant figure out what drives the availability of this field! Could you please help?

  3. Hi,

Synchronize from positions field is visible if “Allow Override at the Assignment” option is selected at Enterprise or Legal Entity Level.
Most likely you can see it for LEs where the option was selected when LE was created.
Please see MOS Note for details: Position Synchronization Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) (Doc ID 2268945.1)

    Kind regards,
    Volodymyr
